Abstract


The Western Region Open University (UPBJJ) Program for Teaching is an Open University (UT) technical implementing unit in an area covering 10 working areas, including: UPBJJ-UT Banda Aceh, UPBJJ-UT Medan, UPBJJ-UT Batam, UPBJJ- UT Padang, UPBJJ-UT Pangkalpinang, UPBJJ-UT Pekanbaru, UPBJJ-UT Jambi, UPBJJ-UT Palembang, UPBJJ-UT Bengkulu and UPBJJ-UT Bandar Lampung. The function and task of UPBJJ-UT is as a place for students to carry out academic administrative activities and academic activities. Everyday UPBJJ-UT Western Region runs the academic community as an organizer and provides distance learning services. In carrying out its main duties and functions, employees are required to have appropriate abilities for their work and good quality and responsibility for their work, employees are required to have good performance. This study aims to determine the effect of leadership, organizational culture and work discipline on the performance of UPBJJ-UT Western Region employees with organizational commitment as an intervening variable. This research uses a quantitative approach, carried out at 10 West Region Open University UPBJJ. When the study began from October to December 2019. The population in this study were all employees in UPBJJ-UT West Region, amounting to 162 people, consisting of 121 Education Personnel (Tendik), 41 Educative Staff (Lecturers) and 10 person in charge of each UPBJJ-UT unit in the Western Region. The sampling method uses a purposive sampling method with the criteria only the staff of education personnel (Tendik) in 10 working areas in the Western Region UPBJJ, so that the sample in this study is all staff of education personnel (Tendik) in 10 working areas in the UPBJJ-UT Western Region which number 121 people. The data used are primary data through questionnaires. The analytical tool used is Path Analysis. The results showed that directly leadership, organizational culture, work discipline and organizational commitment had a significant influence on employee performance. Whereas indirectly leadership, organizational culture, and work discipline through organizational commitment have a significant influence on employee performance. Organizational commitment is an indispensable variable because it can mediate the influence of leadership and work discipline on employee performance, but organizational commitment is not the only variable that can mediate the influence of organizational culture on employee performance.
